About Laura

Born and raised in Portola Valley, California, Laura grew up between the redwoods and the Pacific, and grew into a student of how people, places, and institutions hold together. She is German on one side of the family, fluent in the language, and at home anywhere a good library is within walking distance.

Her interests lean toward the patient kinds of work: long reads, cryptic crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, hours outside in the sun. She studies international security and comparative governance at Stanford, edits the Stanford Journal of International Affairs, and has spent the last several summers in venture, communications, and strategic outreach. Off the desk, she plays classical piano (ten years and counting) and is rarely far from her dog.
